Episode 40: Overcoming Self-Doubt: Learning to Trust Yourself After Childhood Trauma

Episode Description:

This episode originally aired on YouTube.

Do you sometimes (maybe oftentimes) doubt what you think or want because of what someone else says or does?

It’s natural for this to happen at times. But, for survivors of childhood trauma, it can tend to happen quite often, especially around big decisions or feelings.

Learning to trust yourself… your feelings, thoughts, ideas, and intuition can be one of the most challenging aspects of healing.

In today’s episode, I share my thoughts on something I heard that, on the surface, sounds quite empowering but, may cause some to move further away from trusting… and honoring yourself.

Did an experience come to mind for you? I’d love to hear what came up as you listened.

Episode Notes:

-Peggy explores the impact of childhood trauma on self-trust, emphasizing how core beliefs shape the interpretation of external cues.

-The quote "What is meant for you will come with clarity not confusion" is discussed, challenging the notion by highlighting that self-doubt can cloud judgment, especially for those lacking self-trust.

- Childhood trauma survivors may experience fear, shame, and resistance when faced with positive opportunities due to a lack of self-trust. The self-protective part discourages risks, even if they are beneficial.

-The internal dialogue of self-doubt includes thoughts of unworthiness, unpreparedness, and skepticism. The speaker encourages reflection on instances where individuals may have resisted positive possibilities in their lives.

-The importance of learning to trust oneself is highlighted, acknowledging that confusion and uncertainty are natural in the process of healing. Peggy suggests questioning ideas, trusting one's instincts, and being gentle with oneself during the journey of self-discovery.
