Episode 81: When the Bottom Drops Out: Staying Grounded Through the Trauma Healing Process

Episode Description:

This episode originally aired on YouTube.

Staying the course of a trauma healing journey is often the most challenging aspect to navigate.

This is especially true when you find that you’re thinking about things you haven’t thought about in a long time, or maybe didn’t remember at all and when you’re feeling things you’ve (mostly) successfully kept packed away.

In this episode,I share how and why we can find ourselves here and what to do when it happens so you can move through it and not give up on yourself and your healing.

So, whether you're just starting your healing journey or you're well on your way, stick around. What I'm about to share might just change the way you view your progress and give you the encouragement you need to keep going.

I’d love to hear from you. Share your thoughts, reactions, or experiences below.

Episode Notes:

- Healing from childhood trauma is a courageous journey. A major part involves learning to cope in new ways, as well as honoring and validating suppressed feelings.

- It's normal to feel worse during the healing process, which can bring grief and feelings of overwhelm. Healing does not require feeling every painful memory but involves grieving the losses trauma caused.

- Support from a qualified therapist is essential to help survivors stay present and move through difficult emotions rather than shutting down or pushing feelings aside.

- Healing can feel more intense and raw as people unpack and process their trauma, which contrasts with previously mastered survival techniques of pushing feelings aside.

- Despite doubts, each time you move through intense emotions, you build trust in your ability to cope, feeling stronger and more grounded as a result. You have the inner resources needed for healing.
